2014 Pine Family Newsletter
Another year has flown by! It seems we can't stop the fast pace of life... Ever more reason to enjoy each moment, each day, and each lovely smile that comes our way.
2014 has been full of many magical moments for our family. It is an amazing time of life – our young children, our businesses growing, becoming settled in to a happy, comfortable home and community, surrounded by friends and family. It is our time to treasure what we have, and extend our love and gratitude to all of you who are part of this amazing journey of life we share together.
A little look back at our year, special moments, and what's new for us in 2014.
Sierra is in her last year of preschool! We’ve somehow made it through the most challenging years of parenting (don’t even tell me the teenage years could be harder, I’m enjoying the fact that we made it here!) and are going to soon be celebrating Sierra’s 5th birthday.
Sierra is growing into such an observant, comical and amazing individual. She has such thoughtful commentary to share, makes us laugh constantly, and makes me want to hold onto this sweet innocence for as long as possible. She is a complete delight to be around.
Aubrey, now 6 ½, is our little artist/soccer player/gymnast/leader. She is strong-willed and very capable. She is loving and giving. She is a constant friend to her brother and always wanting to take on more. She leaves little notes around the house with pictures of her family, with hearts and messages of love.
Rylan is in 4th grade. Which in and of itself is a shock to me… because as all parents say, “I remember dropping him off on his first day of Kindergarten like it was yesterday…” But I do!! That aside, I love having the capability and independence of a 9 year old in the house. I can count on Rylan for so much, and he is so dependable, I am loving it! He’s a typical boy in that he is into video games (Minecraft at the top of the list), Pokemon and how things work. He also continues to love exercises of extreme challenge and patience. He excels at reading and math and has an amazing breadth of knowledge about geography, biology science. Ask him to explain compound interest or the African Ebola crisis and he can tell you about that as well.
The kids went to an international school there for 2 of the weeks, while we worked from “home.” We enjoyed many of our favorite activities in the rainforest/beach: quad riding, boogie boarding and playing in the waves (for hours!), sand-castle building, beach time, jungle mini golf, tidal waves, great local food, and lots of pool time. The kids and I even learned to surf!
We ventured out the last week of our trip to two new areas of Costa Rica - the Monteverde Cloud Forest and Manuel Antonio National Park – both of which we enjoyed as well.
It was so great having so many family and friends come out to San Clemente where we surprised Tim in a big way over Labor Day weekend. Thank you to everyone who contributed to his party, it made me truly pause and reflect on the importance of loved ones near and far in our lives. We put together a fun birthday video that is worth the watch - included at right for your enjoyment.
In November we got a new puppy, Axel, whom the kids absolutely adore. He is a pure bred Rottweiler (and yes, he does have a long tail, not cropped, which is inline with the European trend to keep their tails long).
We lost Sadie in June to a seizure, she had suffered from Epilepsy for many years.
Axel is about 5 months old, and is already fitting right in with the family. He even got to come with us on our recent trip to Healdsburg and on the Christmas train!
