2016 Pine Family Newsletter
Another year has flown by! It seems we can't stop the fast pace of life... Ever more reason to enjoy each moment, each day, and each lovely smile that comes our way.
2016 has been full of many magical moments for our family. It is an amazing time of life – our young children, our businesses growing, becoming settled in to a happy, comfortable home and community, surrounded by friends and family. It is our time to treasure what we have, and extend our love and gratitude to all of you who are part of this amazing journey of life we share together.
A little look back at our year, special moments, and what's new for us in 2016.
Sierra is now 6 and in first grade.
We love how our third child seems to make parenting seem so easy.
Sierra comes home and files her school work in file drawers, stays on top of her own homework, and is such a pleasure to be around.
Sierra has shown quite a charitable side this year.
In October, she started her own fundraising campaign to help the local animal shelter. She raised over $300!

She also cut 9" of hair to donate!
Sierra has started up at a professional ballet school in Napa, and also performed in the local musical and played soccer this year. She started learning piano, and has loved it!
Aubrey is 8, in 3rd grade.
She is quite the artist and athlete, and just loves to get involved with anything sporty or social.
She played her first year of select soccer - a team that she tried out for - as the starter goalie.
She also performed in our local musical, and is now playing her first season of basketball.
Aubrey is very social and loves time with her friends. She also loves art and "maker" activities of just about any kind.
Rylan is now in middle school! Where does the time go!
He also got accepted into the Davidson's Young Scholars program, a program for exceptionally gifted students. He'll now receive special services and be eligible for summer programs until he's 18.
Rylan has joined Boy Scouts, and absolutely loves the outdoor adventures.
He has played soccer this season as well.
Out and About
We just loved a quick trip to Yosemite for Rylan's birthday in July! We spent the first couple of days there, just me and the big kids, and hiked to the top of Nevada Falls together. Then we were joined by my dad and Sierra.
We got to ride bikes around the Valley Floor - so much fun - and stayed in Half Dome Village tent cabins which offered much to explore in between adventures.
We got to spend a special few days with our cousins in Calaveras County this summer, it was a very fun trip! We played lots of board games and spent the afternoons hiking and enjoying the nearby lake.
In November, Nicole and I went to Spain to celebrate her 40th birthday!
We visited Granada for a few days, climbed the Rock of Gibraltar, and then saw Salamanca, Alba de Torres, Ronda and Madrid. It was so much fun!
Our family returned to our favorite town in Costa Rica, Nosara, again this summer. We stayed at a beautiful house at the top of a hill, it was quite a beautiful retreat-like setting. We found amazing smoothies at the resort next door, and the kids got some more surfing lessons in.
(you can see many photos from our trip by scrolling through the slideshow below).
Our family made it skiing/snowboarding a bit more than we have in the last few years. We were so glad there was snow in Tahoe (finally!).
All 3 kids are now able to ride chairlifts and make it down the blue (intermediate) runs. Aubrey and Rylan both tried out snowboarding this season, and Aubrey is hooked. We've found our new favorite skiing resort is Diamond Peak in Incline Village, NV.
I coached Odyssey of the Mind for the second year and helped this great program get going at the kids' new school, with 35 kids in our afterschool program. I've loved bringing more creativity, team problem solving and STEM education to kids here in Sonoma.
Tim also coached both Sierra and Rylan's soccer team's this year! This is the first year he head coached two teams at once, and he also put in a lot of time helping Aubrey's team. And, if that weren't enough soccer, he also began playing regularly on evenings and weekend and has joined a team that plays regular games throughout the county.
Tim's finally found some help with his knees to help keep him being able to play soccer and snowboard, so he's been happy being able to be as athletic as he's been this year.
Have an amazing 2017!
